Gas Prices! Man o man, I am laughing at you. Fact: the amount of money spent by the Federal Government on Public Transportation is based on revenues from gas taxes. So drive less = less Public Transit Funds. Make sense in a fucking 12 dimensional world where Uthulu's are our Lords and Masters. Fuck, who though this up? Asshat politicians.
Commute! It's been better lately. They installed HUGE speedbumps by the park to slow traffic down. I think people have figured out that you just can't take this shortcut and save time anymore. Very few speeders anymore, on the worst part of my commute. I have also noticed that people seem to be LOOKING AT/for cyclists a bit more. MY TRACKSTANDS IMPRESS EVERYONE. (on that note, if you come to a stop sign first, please go in order, and don't wave me on, you wouldn't do it to someone in a car, now would you?) And what's up with all these squeaky bikes? Spend 50 bucks and get it tuned up. I love coming up in back of other riders and scaring the shit out of them because my chain doesn't sound like a Greatful Dead soundcheck. Just pull into their draft, blow buy 'em and say 'dude, Pedro's'!
Work! It is swell. Not much money (pop's said I should ask for a raise [he's senile, methinks]). But not much hassle. Some pressure, but I pretty much kick ass at what I do, so no worries here. Taught a client about InDesign today. The basic lesson was don't overthink it, and give me the cover in a seperate file. Still the worst part is getting 72 (or 96) dpi RGB images and then having to explain to people that I can't make dogshit into gold without 300 dpi CMYK tifs or psds). dunbasses.
Enough for now, as no one reads this fucking drivel anyway. Looking for Amtrak destinations for a short vacation (I am not going to my folks place) somewhere near CA. UBI bike mechanic school is very expensive, but I may talk to my employeer about paying for part of it (though my job has nothing to do with bikes or mechanicalbike thingys). I dunno just a thought, as I haven't asked for a raise in over a year.
If you read this please tell me to A) STFU, B) GTHO or C)zzzzzzzzzzz
I have been in a really funky mood lately. Sorry if I have pissed some of you off. I'll go ahead and blame it on the frustration that I feel at my commute, hours, etc. I think it is just I am a very social person at work, and now my shift consists of 15 people, of whom 10 do not speak english. I was used to a very social at work thing, and now it is just difficult. Some of the bindery/DI guys are cool, we take breaks outside, and we have been talking (albeit in pidgen english, or broken spanish [me]).
story from work:
Friday 1:30 am and I am in the Plate/proof room cutting down proofs, minding my own beeswax, there is no music coming from the mac. At night Mayra usually has on 80's hits or something tolerable playing. She came in from prepress after making a few flats and sat down to rip, print, then plot and plate them (a usual thing), and she then opened itunes and clicked on my playlist. she played the beginning of the first song and said "Aye carumba!", skipped to number two, and listened to it. I was just cutting away, enjoying the song when she came over and said "Samuel, this is your music?" I kind of nodded yeah, said "I like this", and went back to cutting. She let the playlist go on playing its songs all night.
Oh the band and the songs? One and two? and the playlist? oh, well. IF YOU INSIST:
Band:
Well, duh? Pixies. no one likes them when they first hear them.
Songs 1 and 2:
Sweet Honey Pie and There Goes My Gun (from the BBC Live recordings)
Playlist:
Pixies - Live at the BBC (I love Kim saying "Oh Fuck!" when she screws up her background vocals on 'Is She Weird')
Pixies - Live at Newport Folk Festival, August 06 (Crowd says "Jam". Black Frank says to Saintiago "Have we ever 'jammed'? Joe says, quickly and emphatically [for him] "No".)
Yellowcard - Lights and Sounds. I like it.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Is this a trick question?
If you live on the West Coast it's ~10:00PM for me. I work graveyards, and the hours are different. The job is great, I actually work less than I used to and get paid more!
